Effective September 19, 2026. Waylight is private by default: page text and files are processed on your device and are not sent to us.
Short version
Waylight has no user account, analytics, advertising, or tracking. The browser extension reads visible page text locally to calculate visual anchors and line positions. It does not upload or store that text. The PDF reader processes selected files in your browser. A license key is sent to Lemon Squeezy only when Supporter access needs to be activated or checked.
Browser extension
The extension requests access to webpages so it can display its reading layer on sites you choose. It is not globally active after installation: the current installation page is enabled once so you can see it working, and other sites remain off unless you turn them on. Supporters may deliberately enable always-on mode.
Word anchors use browser-managed text ranges and CSS highlighting. Line focus uses a visual overlay. Reading fonts use a local style. These features do not replace the page’s text or write formatting into editable fields. Inputs, email composers, document editors, source code, canvas content, and other editable or unsupported regions are excluded.
Local settings
Your reading settings, enabled-site list, per-site preferences, and any license key you enter are kept in browser extension storage. They may be included in browser sync if your browser provides and enables that feature. Waylight does not operate that sync service.
PDF and pasted-text reader
Files and pasted text opened in the Waylight Reader are processed with code running in your browser. They are not uploaded to Waylight. Reloading or closing the page clears the active reading copy because the reader does not save documents to a Waylight account or database.
License validation and payment
If you enter a Supporter license, the key and a device instance label are sent to Lemon Squeezy to activate or validate the purchase. The gated phone bookmark endpoint also sends the submitted key to Lemon Squeezy before releasing the bookmark code. Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record and handles payment and billing data under its own terms and privacy policy. Waylight does not receive your full card number.
Website
The public site has no analytics or advertising scripts. Netlify hosts the static pages and the license-gated bookmark endpoint, so normal hosting logs may include information such as IP address, browser details, requested path, and time. Netlify controls retention and processing of its infrastructure logs under its own policies.
Google Docs and Microsoft Word betas
These optional add-ons are different from the browser extension. They must read and edit document formatting to add anchors. Their controls warn before applying changes, and users should work on a copy of important files. Document content is processed within the Google or Microsoft environment and is not sent to a Waylight server.
Data sales, advertising, and children
Waylight does not sell personal information, build advertising profiles, or serve targeted advertising. Waylight is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
You can turn Waylight off for a site, remove the extension, delete its local storage through your browser, or remove a stored license from the extension. Purchase records are held by Lemon Squeezy; contact us if you need help reaching the appropriate payment record.
